Steven Eric Smith was born August 3, 1966, in Highland Park Michigan to Robert Lee and Carol Yvonne Smith who both proceeded him in death. Stevie as his mother, father, and siblings would often call him was a very loving, caring, comical, and outgoing person. Stevie enjoyed life and was the life of any party and had a smile and laugh that was truly contagious.
Steve, the name everyone else would call him, attended Detroit Public schools. In the halls of Osborne High School with his charm, smile, and swag, he would draw the attention of many young ladies but, in September 1982, he captured the heart of Serina M. Rondeau. On December 15, 1990, they became one in holy matrimony and to this union five beautiful children were born.
Steve would have many challenges in life as a young father and husband struggling to find himself, but after hearing and believing the gospel shared with him Steve would begin him Journey with the Lord. After a hard trail, he and his family faced. He was introduced to the ministry of the Open Door Rescue Mission under the leadership of Pastor Hebert and Mary Ruth Rylander. On a daily basis, he was faced with men and women confronted with the same challenges as him. Under the tutelage of the Rylander’s, Steve carried out his Ministry of community service, out reach, teaching, and preaching the word of the Lord.
Much prayer and by the direction of the Holy Ghost Steve and Serina uprooted their family in July 2006, from Detroit Michigan to Las Vegas Nevada. While in Las Vegas, Steve continued his education at the College of Southern Nevada, where he received his bachelor’s degree and an invitation into the PHI THETA KAPPA Fraternity. He later went on to become a Master Level Glazier Journeyman. Steve loved his craft and being able to provide for his family. One of his favorite sayings was a scripture, "If a man doesn’t work; he don’t eat."
Steven E. Smith was preceded in death by his parents: Robert and Carol Smith, mother-in-law, Stella Louise Rondeau, father-in-law, Lester Rondeau, sister, Elizabeth Hughes. brothers: Robert Lee and Tony Smith, sister-in-law, Cynthia, nephew, Lawrence Smith.
He leaves to cherish his beautiful memories, his wife with a total of 39 years together, Mrs. Serina M Smith, seven wonderful children: LaKeisha (Paul) Jones, Keisha Hawthorne, Steven Dawn (Quarlita) Smith, Stephanie, Stephon, Sharita and Shar’ne Smith. seven grand children: Taiya, Katelyn, Zakeyra, Olivia, Myjay, Zahiem, and Aubrey, a great granddaughter, Miss Summer. a sister, Donna Gardner, two brothers: John Shelly, and Charles Bell, three brother-in-law‘s: Lester, Michael, and Terrence, his aunts, uncles, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, more family, and many friends. He never would forget his Pastor Jerome Farris and church family at the open door Gospel Tabernacle.
