Spencer White

August 20, 1947 — June 25, 2024

Spencer B. White Jr. was born August 20th, 1947, in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the union of Spencer B. White Sr. and Juanita White. Spencer was the youngest of seven children. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and became a member of the Galilee Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Grady.

Spencer grew to be a man of unwavering faith, boundless generosity, and fervent love for his family, friends, and community. As Albert Schweitzer once said, “The purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion and the will to help others.” This quote embodied the life that Spencer led.

In his younger days, Spencer served two tours in Vietnam while being enlisted in The United States Navy. Once separated, he settled in Anchorage, Alaska and worked as a Human Resource Director responsible for Staff and Development Training for Nordstrom Department Stores.

Spencer met Annie, the love of his life. They were a match made in heaven. Their marital union exemplified the true meaning of love between a husband and wife. To this union one son, Spencer B. White, III, was born. Spencer White loved his son, Spencer III (“Little Spencer”), who was his pride and joy.

The family later relocated to Las Vegas where it didn’t take them long to find a church home. Rev. White was an active member of Second Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Clayton Moore. Dr. White’s passion for church and music shone brightly. He tirelessly served the church community through various projects, outreach
initiatives, and charitable endeavors, bringing smiles and joy wherever he went. His warm spirit and genuine kindness touched the lives of all who crossed his path.

Spencer received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Medical Technology & Communication from the University of Hawaii. He went on to further his education receiving his Doctrine in Theology from National Bishop’s University, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Rev. Dr. White traveled extensively in the United States and abroad, facilitating classes on Leadership and Church Organization.

Beyond his church and music involvement, Dr. White’s professional journey was marked with excellence and compassion. For many years, Dr. Spencer was known affectionately as the “Mayor” at Valley Health Systems in Las Vegas, where he served as a dedicated Patient Advocate and Service Excellence Coordinator, for seven hospitals. Dr. Spencer’s commitment to service was unparalleled. He embodied a commitment to service in his care for others. In his position, he handled patient grievances through direct contact with physicians, family members, various departments and vendors. As a prominent figure in the Gospel Music Workshop of America, Inc. (GMWA), Dr. White’s leadership on the National Board of Directors and as the President of the Chapter Representative Division, overseeing 120 choirs in the United States, Paris, France, Canada, Japan and the Bahamas has left an indelible mark on the organization. His leadership earned his local Chapter Choir, the destination of “The Best Choir in Las Vegas!” His love for music, community, and service resonated deeply, earning him a special place in the hearts of many. Rev. Dr. White facilitated classes for new hires and
coordinated fundraisers and special events for worthy causes. Rev. Dr. White was sought after for his capabilities as a Motivational Speaker, a Workshop Facilitator, Lecturer, a Teacher/Instructor and he trains the trainer.

Dr. White lived in Las Vegas for 37 years and during this time, his contributions to the community have caused him to be noted as one of the “Who’s Who in Black Las Vegas”; as well as garnering “The Key to the City of Las Vegas” from Mayor Oscar Goodman.

Preceding him in death were both of his parents, Spencer B. White Sr. and Juanita White, his son, Spencer B. White III, his siblings: Barbara Ann Pullom, Edward Jones, Aaron Jones, Maggie Jones, Samuel Jones, and Ossie Ola Smith.

On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, Rev. Dr. Spencer B. White Jr. transitioned this life into eternity.

Rev. Dr. Spencer B. White Jr. will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Dr. Annie V. White, his sister, Margaret Galloway, special nieces: Tracey Ashford, and Allory Prothro, Godson Kevin Quick-Smith, God-grandson Jersiah Bennett-Quick, and a host of family and friends.
