On February 19, 1951, Ora Dean Stennett was born to JD and Bernice Stennett in Chicago, Illinois at Cook County Hospital. Through this union Ora was the second child among nine children.
It was on the Southside of Chicago that Ora grew up. She attended Wendell Philips High School. This is where she discovered her passion for R&B singing which lead her to meet members of the R&B groups; “The Shylights” and the “Temptations”. Even though Ora had a soulful singing voice, she was best known as “Dean”, cooking up mean soul-food dishes for her family, friends, neighbors or anyone who was hungry. Ora didn't meet any strangers. She would open her home up, give you a good home cooked meal and talk over your problems with you. A true good-Samaritan who had a giving spirit, kind heart and a sympathetic nature. If she had it; so did you.
Her favorite pastime was being home with family and friends enjoying good food, beverages, playing cards and listening to music. She was a lover of music, especially jazz, old school sounds and gospel. You could hear the melodies of her favorite tunes played when she exercised her passion for cooking. In particular, soul food dishes which was food for the soul. She was known to cook it so well that she could be considered Mrs. Soul Food herself. Recognized for being “The Life of the Party”, vibrant and exciting, no party was boring with her presence; likewise, no party will be the same without her presence.
On April 6, 2016, Ora transition from this life to be with the Lord.
Preceding her in death was her Father and Mother, JD and Bernice Stennett; her Step-Father, Luther McCraney; her Brothers, Michael Stennett, Clyde Stennett and Charles McCraney and her Fiancé, Moses Boyd.
She leaves to cherish her memories her loving Children: Terrence (Diadora) Stennett, Misty Stennett (Bobby) and Nesha Nicole Stennett; her Sisters: Johnnie StVille, Linda (Leroy) Payne, Denise Horne, Yvonne Stennett (Michael), JoAnn and Shirley; her Brothers: Preston (Fayrene) Stennett, Kenneth (Brenda) Stennett, Howard (Sheila) McCraney, and Luther Jr. Her Grand-Children: Erik, Jacquez, Darion, Chardanay, Diamond and Journey.
