Reverend Michael Wayne Thorns was born to the late Hattie Mae Thorns-Robertson on October 9, 1956, in St. Joseph, Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his father, Henry D. Stamps.
Reverend Thorns moved to Las Vegas when he was 2 years old. He received his education from Ed W. Clark High School. Reverend Thorns worked in the hotel industry for 12 years and 31 years of service for the Clark County School District before retiring in 2021.
In 1989, Reverend Thorns joined Greater Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Nathaniel Whitney, Sr. Rev. Thorns sang in the Men's and Mass Choir. In 1990, he was licensed to preach by Pastor Whitney. He served as an Associate Minister until he was ordained on April 5, 1997.
Rev. Thorns joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and served as an Associate Minister under the leadership of Pastor Johnnie Richardson, Jr. until his health declined. He remained a faithful servant.
Rev. Thorns never met a stranger. Hw was also well known for his neighborhood asnd community support activities. He was one of the first Economic Opportunity Board Executive Committee members.
Rev. Thorns loved to lasugh, have a good time, bowl, and play chess. He shared this special bond with his children, grandchildren, and extended family members.
He was a member of several bowling leagues and was very proud of the 299-score plaque he worked hard to receive. For over 20 years, Rev. Thorns also played chess every week with his longtime friend, Robert (Robbie) Goldberg.
Rev. Thorns eas married to Sarah A. Thorns for 30 years and 4 beautiful chiildren were born to this union and live to cherish his memory: Quincy Giles, Nyesha Coleman, Taisha Jones and Terrence Thorns all of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Rev. Thorns also leaves 8 grandchildren: Desi, Jamila, Jovan Coleman, Jaydah Giles, Sa'Ny Thorns, Millian Thorns-Carter, Aiden Hones and Harley Quinn Giles all of Las Vegas, Nevada
He keaves to cherish his memory and mourn his passing, 6 brothers; Edward Carter, Henry, Pierce, Remarks, Andrew Thorns, Christopher Robertson of Las Vegas, NV, and two sisters; Gladys Thorns of Las Vegas and Chrystle Massey of Oklahoma. Special recognition is given to his Manor family brothers and sisters.
Reverend Thorns also leaves behind to cherish his memory, a host of aunt, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
