Lucy Turner

Lucy Jane Turner was born to the proud parents of Mack Turner and Lillie Mae Swayzer Turner in Winnsboro, Louisiana. She was the first of four children and quite a pretty little girl. Under the leadership of Reverend Roosevelt N. Teats, she confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized. Later she moved from Winnsboro and lived with her maternal grandparents, Pastor I.S. Swayzer and Mary Jane Swayzer in Monroe, Louisiana. Her grandfather being shepherd of the home and church, meant everyone in the household was expected to attend weekly Sunday services. This provided Lucy an opportunity to continue to show her impeccable style and taste in dress.

At an early age Lucy exhibited her talent for cooking. She was a superb cook and baker and was often called upon to create her special dishes for her beloved Macedonia Baptist church. She also enjoyed preparing elaborate meals for family, especially during holidays and always made sure everyone had a plate to take home. In 1966, she joined the Culinary Union where she had the opportunity to enhance her expertise and love for culinary arts. Her move to Las Vegas gave her the chance to work in some of the finest hotels in the city. She retired in 1985, freeing her to focus mainly on family and her hobbies which included travelling to visit extended family and watching nostalgic television shows including Andy Griffith and In The Heat of the Night. If you called her while she was watching television you were guaranteed it would be one of those shows.

Lucy was preceded in death by daughter, Tonia Crittenden, brother, Larry Swayzer and great niece, Nyah Simmons. She leaves to mourn her death sisters Alice L. Dockery (Maryland) and Bertil Turner (Nevada): daughter Gwen Bryant (Georgia); grandchildren Danica and Horatio Turner (Nevada); great grandaughter Aubrey Turner Montgomery (Alex Montgomery, MS); great granddaughter Aubrey turner Montgomery (Alex Montgomery Jr., nieces and nephews Tamara Turner (Maryland), Chevelle Dockery and Tina Dockery Uzoma (Texas), Patricia Dockery Simmons (Maryland), Marcus Toliver (Nevada); great nieces Ashlie Dockery (Texas), Taylor Gee (Texas) and Mia Simmons (Maryland); along with a host of cousins, her fishing and cooking partners, as well as friends who all loved her dearly.

Lucy's favorite scripture was John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believe in him shall not perish but have everlasting life."
