Lena Turner

Lena Mae Banks Turner was born in Transylvania, Louisiana November 9, 1942, to the late Josie Gilmore Banks and
Tom Banks. She was the youngest girl of 10 children. She graduated from G.W. Griffith High School May 19, 1960.
Lena Mae moved to Las Vegas, Nevada July 22, 1960.

She met Leonard Turner Sr. the first day she arrived in Las Vegas. They fell in love and were married on March 25, 1962. They had two children; Felecia Annette Turner (deceased) and Leonard Turner Jr. Lena Mae was employed by Center Telephone Company on September 8, 1964, as an Operator. She received a management appointment on March 1, 1970, as Assistant Chief Operator. During her employment she received numerous awards including
Co-Worker of the Year in 1985 and Vice President’s Award for Management Excellence in 1987. She served in many management positions during her tenure before retiring on November 1, 2004. Lena Mae accepted Christ at an early age. She joined Bethel Baptist Church after relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada. She was a founding member of True Love Missionary Baptist Church. While attending True Love she was the Financial Secretary, Young Adult Sunday School Teacher and Vacation Bible School Teacher for the adult class. In September 1991, Lena was one of the founding members of the True Vine Missionary Baptist Church.

She was a Trustee and the church Treasurer. On June 19, 2011, Lena Mae joined Second Baptist Church after much prayer and direction from the Holy Spirit. While attending Second Baptist Church she served on the Human Resources Ministry, Sunday School Ministry Teacher, Women’s Ministry and as the Deaconess Ministry Leader.

In January 2019, Lena Mae joined Renaissance Fellowship after much prayer and direction from the Holy Spirit. Immediately after uniting with Renaissance Fellowship, she started the Women’s Missionary Ministry which included endless hours of preparation, securing a location and ensuring that materials (books) were available for classroom study. She also led the Sunday Bible study prior to the weekly Sunday Services. It’s important to note the love
and passion that was always extended to her followers. Lena Mae served as a faithful member until her illness. She was called home by her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 24, 2021.
