Janice Carter

October 27, 1938 — September 8, 2020

Janice Wilma Riggs Tucker Carter was born on October 27, 1938, in Flint, Michigan to Clara Riggs and James McMullen. At nine months old, she was adopted by her parents, Larn and Daisy Grandberry. She attended Flint Community Schools and graduated from Northern High School. She went on to further her education at Mott Community College and Michigan State University.

On April 9, 1955, Janice married George W. Tucker and to that union four children were born: Duane, Keith, Craig, and Judy…their pride and joy. Janice worked for Michigan State University in the Expanded Food and Nutrition program from which she retired. As a long-standing member of Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Janice was an avid choir member. “Keep God First”, were the words that Janice installed into her family.

In 1989, Janice moved to Las Vegas, Nevada with her second husband, James Carter. After the passing of her daughter, Judy in 1997. Janice took on the responsibility of raising her granddaughters: Tiara and Brittany. She was a long-term member of Calvary Southern Baptist Church where she also served in the choir. Janice began her second career at the famous Charleston West Car Wash. It was at the car wash, that she met and became friends with many Las Vegans. She worked until her illness; 25 years strong.

Janice was the family’s strong matriarch. She brought the family together with her kindness and her home cooked meals. In her pastime, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was known for her “straightforwardness”, but it was always done in Christian love. Janice truly loved the Lord!

On Tuesday, September 8th, 2020, she went home to be with the Lord. Proceeding her in death was Clara Riggs and James McMullen; her parents, Larn and Daisy Grandberry; husband and father of her children, George W. Tucker; her daughter, Judy and son, Keith; two of her sisters: Audrey Thornton and Carol Scott and two of her brothers: Jerome McMullen and Darwin McMullen.

Ms. Janice Tucker Carter leaves to cherish her memory two sons: Duane (Robin) Tucker of Flint, MI and Craig (Paula S.) Tucker of Las Vegas, NV; a daughter-in-law, Paula L. Tucker of Texas; three sisters: Pam (Louis) Taylor and Nancy Irby of Flint, MI and Nikki McMullen of Detroit, MI; three brothers: Bruce McMullen, John McMullen of Detroit, MI; and Steven McMullen of Woodlawn Park, MI; four granddaughters; one grandson; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter and a host of family and friends.
