James Bryant

James Anthony (JayBe) Bryant was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to William Bryant Sr and Elcena Payne Bryant; however at early age the family planted their roots in Kansas City, Kansas, where he called home. Elcena remarried to Henry Buie joining a large family together.

JayBe was a gentle giant stood 6.7 feet tall who loved his children, loved his family and friends, and loved his career. He was a kind soul, who always had a good story to tell, a funny joke, advice and guidance for those who needed it. A larger than life sense of humor and personality with a heart of gold. Before his passing he was working on a musical project to honor his long time friend Prince and the musical sound of Minneapolis. He was extremely excited to move this project forward.

JayBe was definitely the family celebrity and we loved when he came back home for a visit. James will be deeply missed for his smile, laughter and the funny nicknames he gave everyone that he encountered.

JayBe was a lover of music and displayed his passion in the industry supporting various projects with Prince, Morris Day & the Times traveling the world. James was also featured in Patty LeBelle’s) music video (Yo Mista). In addition, James traveled working with the Harlem Globe Trotters.

James leaves to celebrate his life his children, his siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and some amazing friends that have also become family.

Jame was brave, bold and lived life to the fullest! Thank you for showing us how to do that. We will forever miss you JayBe!
