It is with broken hearts that the family of Harold Gay, Jr. announce his passing. Harold
(affectionately known as “Harry”) passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2024,
surrounded by his family and friends.
Harry was born in Attleboro, Massachusetts, on December 3, 1937, to Harold Gay, Sr. and
Dorothy Gay.
After graduating from Norton High School. He attended the University of New Mexico. Harry
proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force on May 25, 1956. While in the Air Force, Harry
was in the 2010th AACS (MATS) Unit, where he received an Air Force Longevity Service Award.
After being honorably discharged from the United States Air Force on May 24, 1962,
Harry was then employed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an air traffic
controller and instructor in Denver, Colorado, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he worked
until his retirement. Because of his love for his country and aviation, Harry started a second
career as an air traffic controller and instructor for many years and created programs to train
air traffic controllers worldwide. During this time, he worked as a contractor at several locations
worldwide, including Oklahoma City, Jamaica, Kansas City, California, Miami, and Afghanistan.
Eventually, he retired and moved to Las Vegas, NV with his wife Patricia, whom he met in
Jamaica.
Harry was a lifelong, devoted Catholic. His integrity, generosity, honesty, work ethic, love of his
faith, love for his family, and love for his country was unmeasurable. He will forever be loved
and missed.
Harry is preceded in death by his parents, Harold Gay, Sr. and Dorothy Gay, his sister Shirley
Smith, two daughters, Jane Duarte and Jennifer Gay, and two great-granddaughters.
Harry is survived by his wife, Patricia Gay of North Las Vegas, and daughters Katherine
Escandon of El Paso, Texas, Susan Carabajal, Nancy Gay, and Patricia (Henry) Martinez, all of
Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Harry is also survived by his stepdaughters and their families: Natalie, Antonette (Leo), Shienne
(Rolando), Marie (Dan), and Tiffany (Sean).
Harry leaves behind several grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved and adored him.
May his soul rest in peace, knowing that he made a difference in the lives of others, and may
his light continue to shine brightly through the memories we hold dear.
