George Emerson Brittenham, Jr. departed this life on March 10, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Sunnie, as he was affectionately called, was born on July 24, 1932, in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He was the oldest son of George E. and Louise Brittenham. Sr. George was a 1949 graduate of the Historic Walker-Grant School.
After graduating from Walker-Grant, he joined the United States Air Force (A1C Airman First Class) in 1949. George was a dedicated employee at Lockheed Martin and retired after twenty-seven years of service. George was a resident of Los Angeles, California for most of his life. During his retirement years, George cheerfully worked security for the Jimmy Kimmel Live Show.
George was a renowned Jazz Vocalist and collaborated with various jazz bands and individual musicians in the United States and abroad in Paris, France and Holland, Netherlands. His style and command of the stage led to him being a sought-after jazz vocalist performing in noted venues in Los Angeles.
George will be remembered for being a very kind, fun-loving brother, father, uncle and friend. His wit and humor were an added bonus to his debonair style. Sunnie was a class act and the epitome of everything a gentleman should be. He was blessed to live 91 years of life. He is survived by his loving son Terry Brittenham, his sister,Gloria Brittenham Johnson, of Fredericksburg, Virginia and his brother, Richard Brittenham, Sr. (Patricia), of Ft. Worth, Texas, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, band mates, and neighbors.
