Evans Watkins

Evans John B. Watkins was the son of the late Henry and Alberta Watkins. He was born on February 7, 1936, in Oakridge, Louisiana.

Deacon Watkins his lifelong relationship with the Lord when he was baptized at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Bastrop, Louisiana at early age. He attended Morehouse High School in Bastrop, Louisiana, where he loved to play sports, including football and track. He married the former Helen Lowe right after high school and fathered two children.

Deacon Watkins would later report that he had met the loved of his life, Rosielean Mason in Louisiana, where they attended elementary, and high school together. However, after graduation, they went their separate ways - he moved to La Vegas and Rosielean moved to Michigan. In 1985, Deacon Watkins returned to Bastrop, Louisiana and was united in holy matrimony to the future Reverend Rosialean Wastkins. They were married on March 9, 1985, and returned to Las Vegas to build a life together.

Deacon Watkins was crowned Deacon under the leadership of Pastor Bill Casey of Faith Bible Christian Center. In 1980, he united under the leadership of the late Pastor Donnell Horn of St. James Missionary Baptist Church here in Las Vegas, Nevada. There he also served as President od the Usher Board. He continued his service at New Revelation Baptist first under the late Pastor Horn and the under Pastor M. Christopher Brown II. Deacon Evans embodied the requirements of a deacon described in 1 Timothy 3: 8-13 and served faithfully until he transitioned to be with the Lord.

He was preceded in death by his brothers: Joseph Montgomery, Henry Watkins Jr., Aubrey Watkins, Fred Watkins, Henry Watkins III, Leon Watkins, Emmett Watkins, Oza Lee Watkins; sisters: Lucille (Gary) Watkins, Charlotte Watkins; and baby girl, Watkins.

Deacon Watkins leaves to celebrate the life he lived, his devoted wife of 36 years, Reverend Rosielean Watkins; his daughter, Veronica (Michael) Watkins- Humphreys, Evans Watkins II; Jessie (Kat) Larkin; God-son, Javon Scott; two sisters: Lula B. Watkins-Williams and Osie B. Watkins-Montgomery; six brothers-in-law: Willie (Debbie) Mason, Jethro (Florence) Mason, David (Bobbie) Mason,; a special friend, June Randolph; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
