Dudley Fitzgerald Jemmott was born on May 16, 1932, in Brooklyn, NY, to proud parents, father Oscar Jemmott, and mother Cladys. He was (1) of (6) children born to them: brothers John, James, Norman, George, and sister Delores, all of whom have preceded him to glory. In 1947, Dudley met his lifemate, Barbara Delores Chriclow; they were wed in Holy Matrimony in 1951, then went on to have 3 children born unto them: Andre, Vernon (who went on to glory in 2019), and Kim. Barbara and Dudley remained deeply in love, committed, and married for 68 years until his passing. In addition, Dudley was the proud grandfather of (5) grandchildren: Nyellka, Karim, Andre Jr., Ebonique, and Trayvion; great-grandfather of (7) Shakia, Maurice, D’ron, Shaila, Justyce, Zakia, Andre III, and great-great-grandfather of (1) Andre.
Dudley attended the following schools in Brooklyn, NY: P.S. 26 from grades 1-8, and graduated from George Westinghouse High School in 1950. He was then awarded a 2-year scholarship for art at a local college where he attended for (1) year prior to his marriage. Dudley then went on to work at the New York City Transit Authority starting
in 1954, as a Road Car Inspector, where he served for 30 years before retiring in 1984. He was a former boy scout leader, as well as an avid bowler, who bowled in several leagues. He also enjoyed traveling, his family, loved kids and was affectionately known to many of them as “Candyman”. He was always a joke teller, and prankster who would keep everyone laughing. Dudley enjoyed a happy, fruitful life at the side of his doting wife Barbara, whom he always felt the desire to not be too far away from, to spend every possible moment of life together, just to make sure she was ok; this he did until his very last breath.
Dudley departed this life on the evening of May 15, 2021 at Centennial Hills Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 68 years, Barbara, (2) surviving children, Andre, and Kim, daughter-in-law Betty, brother in law Frank, sister-in-laws Aurora, and Joan, (5) grandchildren, (7) great-grandchildren, (1) great-great-grandson, as well as countless other relatives and friends. Barbara Jemmott, on behalf of her family would like to thank each and every one who called, sent cards, flowers, thoughts, and prayers, prepared food, or otherwise assisted the family during this trying time.
