Dorothy Major
July 31, 1947 – December 26, 2025

A beautiful baby girl was born to Wilbert Sr. and Sarah Crockrom on July 31, 1947, in Jackson, Mississippi, and they named her Dorothy. From her earliest days, Dorothy’s life was rooted in faith, love, and strong family values. These foundations shaped a woman whose humility, compassion, and quiet strength would touch countless lives.

At the tender age of 12, Dorothy accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, beginning a lifelong walk of faith. Her relationship with God guided every aspect of her life and was evident not only in her words, but in her actions. She lived her faith daily—through kindness, service, patience, and unconditional love for others.

In 1961, Dorothy made Nevada home, first in Las Vegas and then in North Las Vegas in 1975, where she resided for more than six decades. She attended Las Vegas High School, graduating in 1963. North Las Vegas remained the place she proudly called home—a community where she raised her family, served faithfully, and became a deeply respected and beloved presence.

Dorothy shared close and meaningful bonds with her siblings: Barbara (James Feltus Sr.) Crockrom; Wilbert Crockrom Jr.; Sarah (Lennis) Bolden; Linda Faye Hunt; Thomas Crockrom; and Kevin Crockrom. Family was central to Dorothy’s life, and those relationships remained dear to her heart.

On June 14, 1991, Dorothy married the love of her life, William Major Sr. Their union was one of devotion, companionship, and shared faith, bringing great joy and fulfillment to her life. Through this marriage, a beautiful, blended family was formed, and Dorothy embraced every role with grace, love, and unwavering commitment.

She was richly blessed with a large and loving family and was a devoted mother to Anthony Bernard Crockrom, Vincent Darrell Crockrom, Kenneth Lee Powell, Artis Junior Powell, her blended children through marriage:  Karen Major, Sandra Major, William Major Jr., and Roland Major. Dorothy was the very essence of motherhood and grandmotherhood—raising her children and grandchildren with discipline, patience, faith, and unconditional love. She was always present, always caring, and always ready to give of herself. Her home was a place of comfort, her counsel was trusted, and her love was unwavering. Truly, she was a Proverbs 31 Woman.

Professionally, Dorothy dedicated 20 years of faithful service to the Stratosphere Hotel, where she worked as a housekeeping inspector. Known for her diligence, integrity, and attention to detail, she earned the respected distinction of Best Inspector. Even in her career, Dorothy carried herself with humility and grace, never seeking recognition, only striving to do her work with excellence and pride.

Dorothy’s faith found its spiritual home at New Birth Baptist Assembly, where she served devotedly for more than 30 years. As a cherished member of the Mother’s Board, she stood as a pillar of prayer, wisdom, and nurturing love. To many, she was not simply a church mother—she was the church mother: humble in spirit, rich in compassion, and always present when comfort, guidance, or prayer was needed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbert Sr. and Sarah Crockrom, her beloved husband, William Major Sr., and her brother, Wilbert Crockrom Jr.

On December 26, 2025, Dorothy Major peacefully transitioned from this life. Her life reflected the words of Philippians 2:3:  “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.  Rather, in humility, value others above yourselves.” She lived these words fully and faithfully.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her children, her siblings, three generations of grandchildren, 65 in total, extended family members, church family, and dear friends who were blessed by her life.

Though Dorothy has left this earthly life, her legacy of faith, love, humility, and service will live on for generations. Her memory will forever remain a blessing..
