Deacon James Mcneal

December 19, 1926 — February 6, 2021

Deacon James McNeal Sr. was born December 19, 1926, in Transylvania Louisiana to the late Lovell and Sophronia McNeal. He was the sixth of nine children. He attended school at Thomas Town in Tallulah Louisiana.

In 1950, he was drafted to the United States Army where he served in active combat during the Korean War. After receiving an honorary discharge, he moved to Whitney (Las Vegas), Nevada. There, he met and married Willie Lee Davis.

During the span of his life he worked at the Nevada Test Site, several strip properties and the City of Las Vegas where he remained until retirement. Deacon James McNeal accepted Christ and was baptized under the leadership of late the Pastor F.N. Addison of New Jerusalem Baptist Church, in Las Vegas. He later joined Carver Missionary Baptist church, where he was ordained a Deacon under the leadership of the late Pastor James Proby Sr. in Four Mile Park, Nevada. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Board and Superintendent of Sunday School for more than 30 years under the leaderships of the late Pastor Lofton Richard Sr., Pastor Sylvester Rogers, Pastor R.J. Wilson, and the late Pastor Alphonse McLeod. He remained a member under the leadership of Dr. James McCool until the Lord called him home.

On February 6, 2021, Deacon James McNeal Sr. transitioned from this life to be with the Lord. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Willie Lee McNeal, his parents, and seven siblings: Virginia Jefferson, Willie Mae Franklin, Isaac McNeal Sr., Bessie Jackson, Walter McNeal Sr., Mary Allen and McKinley McNeal Sr., and one son, James McNeal Jr.

Deacon James McNeal Sr. leaves to cherish his memories, five daughters: Joyce Hicks, Janice McNeal, Joyce Ann McNeal, Minister Jeannette (Wilfred) Williams, and Bernadine Straughter; and one son, Samuel Davis all of Las Vegas Nevada; one sister, Molene Daley of Delano, California; 20 grandchildren, 36 great grand children, three great-great grand children and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
