Darryl Hackett-Adkins, 64, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away unexpectedly on November 7, 2023.
Darryl who was fondly known as “Big Dee”
, was born May 15th, 1959 to Cleo ”Jean” Burks &
James “Buster” Smith in Los Angeles, California. Growing up in Venice, California, Darryl spent
most of his days down on the beach. He loved to go roller skating up & down the boardwalk.
When Darryl was 15, his family relocated to Vallejo, California. Darryl received his formal
education at Bay High School in San Francisco California. This is where Darryl found his
calling in life as an auto mechanic. Three years later Darryl graduated Bay High School and
began his journey in fatherhood. Darryl was well known to his family and friends as a “Jack
of all Trades''. He was self-employed as an auto mechanic right out of high school up until
his passing. He was a strong, kind-hearted, loving, caring, giving, and compassionate person,
and will always be remembered for his dedication to his craft, and his family.
Darryl was preceded in death by: his father James “Buster” Smith, mother Cleo “Jean” Burks,
sister Ladonna Adkins, brother James “Smitty” Smith, brother Michael Adkins, brother James
Lewis Jr., grandson Jaylin Hackett-Lewis, & granddaughter Precious Johnson.
Darryl leaves to cherish his memory: his brother James “LD” Adkins, sister Melody Ralls,
brother Odell Carter Jr., brother Rickie Carter, sister Katherine “Co-Co” Lewis, sister Roxann
Lewis, sister Monica Lewis, son Leon Hackett, daughter Juliette Hackett, son Maurice Hackett,
grandson Travion Johnson, & a host of cousins, nephews, & nieces.
As we gather to honor Darryl’s memory, let us reflect on the profound impact he had on our
lives. His gentle spirit, filled with love and kindness, touched the hearts of all who knew
him. Darryl’s laid back nature, and sense of humor brought joy to countless moments,
reminding us to embrace life’s simple pleasures.
