Carmen Sosa

–

Las Vegas, Nevada

Carmen Sosa was born on July 16, 1940, in Barangay Sta. Anastacia, Sto. Tomas, Batangas, Philippines. She was the eldest of eight children, born to Marcelino Canta and Aurelia Macahiya. She grew up alongside her seven siblings: Betty, Lita, Normita, Arturo, Lando, Phillip, and Paul.

Carmen graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education and began her career as a music teacher. She taught at Sta. Anastacia Elementary School before transferring to Sto. Tomas Elementary School. Music was an important part of her life, and during flag ceremonies, she had the honor of conducting the Philippine National Anthem.

On July 31, 1964, Carmen married Napoleon Sosa. Together, they built a family and were blessed with seven children: Ariel, Glenda, Arlenne, Jaime, Maylyn, Romel, and Rita. Her family became the center of her life and remained her greatest love.

On February 5, 1993, Carmen immigrated to the United States, beginning another chapter of her life in America with Romel and Rita, followed by Maylyn. Through every chapter of her life, one thing remained constant - her devotion to her family.

Carmen was a provider in every sense of the word because our dad died in 2003. Even during the toughest times, she always found a way to make sure her family had what they needed. She was incredibly loving, caring, generous, and selfless. She thought of others before herself and found happiness in giving.

Her family will always remember the meals she lovingly prepared, especially her sopas, menudo, and pancit - dishes everyone knew to request because nobody could make them quite like she did. Her cooking was more than food; it was one of the many ways she expressed her love and cared for the people around her.

On August 19, 2026, at the age of 86, Carmen peacefully passed away. She leaves behind a lifetime of beautiful memories and a legacy of love, generosity, strength, sacrifice, and family.

To her brothers and sisters, thank you for being such an important part of our mom's life. Thank you for standing by her, loving her, and being there for her through all the different chapters of her journey. The closeness you shared was a gift not only to her, but to all of us.

Although she is deeply missed, the lessons she taught, the traditions she created, the meals she shared, and most importantly, the love she gave will continue through her children, her family, and everyone whose life she touched.

We pray that Carmen, her parents, and
Tita Betty are together in Heaven, watching over all of us, guiding us, and surrounding ourfamily with their love. May they continue to look after us until the day we are all together again.
