Apolinar Hernandez

October 6, 1940 — July 19, 2020

Apolinar S. Hernandez, 79

Apolinar “Nar” Sunga Hernandez, 79, died from complications of a motor vehicle accident on July 19, 2020 at University Medical Center-Las Vegas with his family by his side.

He was born in Masantol Pampanga, Philippines to Leonardo and Dolores (Sunga) Hernandez on October 6, 1940. He received a degree in Civil Engineering from Far Eastern University (Manila, Philippines). He immigrated to the United States in 1968. Throughout his life, Nar traveled and lived between his favorite places in the United States and the Philippines.

In his early life, Nar worked in Engineering and Real Estate. However, his greatest undertaking was being a “stay at home” dad to his three older children. He devoted many years caring for Antoinette, Basil, and Robert. Life was not always easy raising a child with autism, but he made every effort he could despite the challenges. His love for music rang through the house with his piano playing and beautiful voice. He was smart and funny, always cracking jokes with his merry humor. Later in life, he would often say that one should do as they wish and have no regrets in the end. He was proud of his adventure travels. It was during his adventures in the Philippines that he met his surviving wife Emily and was blessed with another daughter, Miracle. He was fond of sharing his stories and travels with Emily and Miracle. He had this way about him which fostered peace, and his love and care for those around him was endless. His last year of life was plagued with pain and illness. But even through tough times, he would crack a joke and bring a smile to those around him. We are grateful that he no longer has those pains of old age. We take solace and comfort knowing that he is with His Heavenly Father.

He is survived by his wife, Emily Sunga Hernandez, his daughter Antoinette (James Waltenberger) Hernandez of Caledonia, Wisconsin; his son Basil (Alice) Hernandez of Batavia, Illinois; his son Robert Hernandez of Chicago, Illinois, his daughter Miracle Hernandez of Las Vegas, Nevada; his grandchildren Lila, Rowan, Sophie, Marcus, and Quinn; his former wife Rosita Soriao Hernandez; his brothers Francisco (Anicia) and Benancio; his nephews and nieces Reynaldo, Hermalita, Herejerica, Michael, Leonardo, Benjamin, Mona; and many other cherished family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Leonardo, his mother Dolores, his sister Josefina Lacap, his brother Hospicio Hernandez and his nephew, Herendino Hernandez.

A visitation service will be held at the Heritage Mortuary, on Monday, July 27 at 10 a.m.
