Alice Tugwell was born in Monroe Louisana, to the Reverend Levi Ellis Tugwell and Alene Head. When she was five years old the family relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada. At the age of eight, Alice found solace in her faith and was baptized by Reverend J. L. Simmons.
Upon completing high school, Alice dedicated 37 years of her life as a Sales Specialist for Carol Little at Macy’s. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Hattie Fletcher, and a loving grandmother to her grandson, Taylor Denson, Sr.
Alice's family transferred their membership from Strangers Home Missionary Church to Bethel Baptist Church, where she faithfully served for 60 years.
In her pasttime, she volunteered as a Radio Personality at KCEP Radio for over 40 years, earning her the title of The Godmother of Gospel. Alice also held positions as the past secretary of the Rose of Sharon Order of the Eastern Star and past president of Job’s Daughters (Children’s Division).
Alice was preceded in death by her mother, Alene Johnson, her father, Reverend Levi Ellis Tugwell, her brothers: Joseph Tugwell, Allen Tugwell, and Alonzo Tugwell, and her sister, Alvena Watson.
On July 7, 2024, Sister Alice, The Godmother of Gospel, peacefully transitioned into eternity.
Alice leaves to cherish and carry on her memories, her daughter, Hattie (Richard LaVon) Fletcher, grandson Taylor (Leslie) Denson, Sr., great-grandsons: Taylor Denson, Jr., Tajee Denson, T’Andre Denson, Kamren Denson, great-granddaughters: Tamarr Denson and Charlee Denson, all of Las Vegas, Nevada; brother Samuel Tugwell of Queens, New York, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Sister Alice, "The Godmother of Gospel" Tugwell was loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed but never forgotten... AND THE BOTTOM LINE IS!
She will hold a special place in all our hearts forever.
