Obituary for Veronica Ottey

At 68 years old the Lord sent down his angels to deliver Veronica Ottey to him on March 22,2021.

Veronica was born February 27,1953 to the late George and Roberta McLemore in Las Vegas, NV. She was the second of three daughters. She attended Kit Carson Elementary School, Roy Martin Junior High School, and Clark High School. She then pursued a career at the State of Nevada Workman Comp and then went on to become a Family Service Specialist for the Nevada State Welfare where she retired after 34 years.

Veronica gave her life to Christ in her early 30’s and joined St. John C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of the late O.L. Jefferson, which later became Portals to Glory C.O.G.I.C under the Late Robert Jefferson, where she became a licensed missionary, the president of the usher board, an active member of the choir, Young Women Christian Council, Hospitality and various auxiliaries in the church. She was also a Sunday school teacher and the first to host Thom Thom wedding. Her favorite scriptures are Mathew 7:7 and Romans 8:28. She later joined Ebenezer C.O.G.I.C. under the leader of the Superintendent Bill McDonnell, before returning home to Portals to Glory under Superintendent Cleo Jamerson Jr.

Veronica was known for her loving sweet spirit and being the spiritual glue for her family. She was kind, free hearted, and very faithful. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. She would pray for anyone even if you did not want prayer. She was never without her bottle of oil and was not afraid to use it. She made sure her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews knew who God is and the importance of a relationship with him.

Veronica received her crown of reward on March 22,2021 and is proceeded in death by her parents George and Roberta McLemore. Holding precious memories in the hearts to cherish: Two sons: Charles R. Hill (Jenny Calvillo), Dwayne Ottey Jr. of Las Vegas, NV, Her only daughter: Nakia Washington of Las Vegas, NV, Eight Grandchildren: Charles M. Hill, Tatyana S. Brown, Kenyonne M. Brown, Elijah C. Hill, Jae’Vionne V. Washington, Sierre S. Washington, Miracle N. Ottey, Lundy R. Washington, Two sisters: Etta D. Hodges, Georgia McLemore, One Goddaughter: Andrea Hall, One Godson Justus Thompson Grove and a host of nieces, nephews and spiritual sisters and brothers.
