Obituary for Wenonah Scott

My name is Wenonah C. Scott. I was the third child born to wonderful parents, John and Helen Miller on November 8, 1948, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our family were proud members of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church and at an early age I started my walk with Christ. I had lots of activities and hobbies which included serving in the Youth Choir, ushering on the Usher Board and being a Majorette at Chrispus Attucks High School.

Though Indiana was my home, I pursued new opportunities in Los Angeles, California. I was employed as a Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service; Supervisor for the Herald Examiner; and Surgical Technician at Tarzana Medical Center. Los Angeles was also where I met and fell in love with my husband, Frankie L Scott. I always had a passion for helping people and I knew going back to school to obtain my Associates degree in Accounting would open new doors for me to do just that. Upon graduation in 1979, I started my career as an Accountant and Income Tax Preparer for H&R Block. I then continued at Williams Tax Services until I fulfilled my own dream and opened Wenonah’s Income Tax Services.

While in Los Angeles, I joined New Pleasant Hills Missionary Baptist Church. I faithfully served on the Finance Committee, Take Care of Business Committee and Pastors Aid. And, after 24 wonderful years Las Vegas, Nevada became my home. Business grew and I added several services I knew would assist my clients better. I became a Nevada Realtor, Nevada Notary Public and added Bookkeeper to my professional titles. In being a minority, woman owned business, it afforded me the opportunity to serve my community by provided employment to many who also became my sons/daughters in love. It also afforded me the pleasures of traveling, spending time with my family and friends and yes, Bingo. Continuing my walk and service to Christ, I joined One Body In Christ Christian Church where I served as a member of the Trustees Board and the Finance Committee.

Anyone who met me knew I was a strong and determined woman of God with a giving soul. My motto: “If you have a need, I will do all I can to help.” Some would say I was the rock of my family but to be honest, my family was my rock, my leaning post, and my resting place.

Cherishing my memories and embracing my legacy are my daughters Rochelle Marie Bufford (Kevin) of Snellville, Georgia; Crystalynn Rankin of Las Vegas, Nevada; my sister Marilynn Baker of Apple Valley, Minnesota; bonus children: Frankie Lee (Dyiimela), Frank, Levell, Kimberly, Natashia, Raynard, Danny, Roderick, Melva, Cheryl, Dion; Goddaughters Patricia Lee Butler (James) and Lattice Yvonne; my grandchildren: Marvin Jr., Devin, Maya, Taylor, Somalia as well as a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

I lived a full life and am now joined together again with my husband, Frankie Lee Scott, my parents John R. Miller Sr. and Helen Miller as well as Kenneth Scott, Jaqueline Scott, Michael Reece, and Cherrie Scott.

Until We Meet Again,
-Wenonah
