Obituary for Bert Roy Guillory Jr.

Chief Warrant Officer W-5 (Ret.) Bert Roy Guillory, Jr., was born November 4, 1935, to parents, Bert Roy Guillory, Sr., and Vesta “Betsy” Lyles Guillory, in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

“Chief” Guillory graduated high school in 1954 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. After high school, he worked for Hunt Tool Co., in Houston, Texas, as a clerk-stenographer from 1954-1956. Then for the balance of 1956, he worked for Southern Pacific Railroad as a clerk in Houston, Texas.

In 1956, he enlisted in the US Army as a dual status Civilian Employee (Civil Service). From 1956-1979, he served as an Administrative Specialist, Plans and Training Officer, Administrative Assistant, and Administrative Supply Technician. Then from 1979-1995, he served in the US Army Reserve on extended active duty as a Military Technician, Staff Administrative Specialist, Supervisory Staff Administrative Assistant, Administrative Officer Military Personnel Technician, Chief of Personnel Services Support Team, Personnel Officer, and Chief of Special Actions Branch.

“Chief” Guillory attended twelve service schools and was awarded the following recognition awards:
Legion of Merit; Three Meritorious Service Medal; Four Commendation Medals; Two Army Achievement Medals; Two Army Reserve Component Achievement Medals; the National Defense Service Medal; Four Armed Forces Reserve Medals; Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; US Army Recruiter Identification Badge; and Expert Qualification Badges on Rifle, .30 M1 Carbine, .30 M1 Pistol, .45 Rifle M14, and Rifle M116A1; and Letters and Certificates of Commendation, both civilian and military.
In his pastime he loved to travel, playing dominoes, loved music and classic movies, shooting guns, and being a soldier.

On December 19, 2020, he passed away in Las Vegas, Nevada, having turned 85 years of age in November.
He is preceded in death by both parents and two sisters: Abbie Moon Hardin and Dale Moon.

Bert leaves to cherish his memories his five children: Laura Veazey Roets, Carey Bert Guillory, Holly Rebecah Long, Margo D’Ann Hawn, and Joe Christopher Guillory, 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, and his beloved, Nancy Guillory.

Bert Roy Guillory Jr., you will forever live in our hearts. You will be remembered for the love you had for your family and friends.
