Obituary for Renick Michael Lambey

Renick Michael Lambey (better known as Reptile) was born in Dangriga, Belize on September 28th of 1959. He attended Methodist School in Belize City, Belize and spent his elementary years living with his grandmother, Guadalupe Martinez in Punta Gorda. Post elementary, he went to spend his mid youth years with his grandmother, Celestine Diego and his mother Elsie Lino.

You can say Renick was blessed with the opportunity to learn wise old wisdom from matriarchs on both sides of the family. As the weight from demands in life began to cause restrictions, Renick was jolted into the role of a guardian for his siblings as his mother and grandmother made a much needed risk to better the lives of the family by moving up north to the land of opportunity.

Renick (being the man he was) laced up his boots, tightened his straps, tilted his chin and went full steam ahead making decisions to keep his boat a float. He worked several jobs such as selling fish, shining shoes and bartering...all the while hustling wherever he could to have a little extra. Sometimes his ambition to provide was so great that he would risk his life and get chased from farm fields. He was a determined fellow...but always determined for an honorable cause. He was a family man. He was a man who lived and also learned. After years of cutting corners to provide, he dedicated himself to the law and joined the Belize Defense Force (BDF). He adopted a military mind and was a real product of the force. This only strengthened his ambitious soul and before you know it he found himself making an honest wage to provide for his family.

This opportunity for growth led him into a destined union with the young woman of his soul...Diana Lambey. She 15 and he 19...yes...the age gap was ok then, in Belize. You can say she was stricken by his “man in a suit” persona but we all know he used that posture to his advantage because he was captivated by her beautiful baby face. That BDF bravery had Renick marrying Diana before she could even say forever and ever. Although a man’s man...he was a gentle and sweet man. Always thoughtful.

Soon after marriage they began building a family and Renick continued to make decisions in the best interest of his family by working multiple jobs alongside his BDF commitment. Jobs such as Construction, a Law Officer, Masonry & a Sea Fisherman. After tragedy struck the family and Renick lost his daughter, the light bulb moment to follow in his mothers footsteps and move to the US was almost instant. South Central Los Angeles was the settling destination.

The transition was not easy but Renick managed to pick up the culture quickly and hit the pavement running. He immediately took to what he knew best and juggled a construction job, a weekend private security job and a part time pest control job. He was just a hard worker and loved having things to do. He even spent a short amount of time acting and had some rather awesome extra roles. One to be noted?...THE DOGS OF WAR with Christopher Walken. Big or small, he enjoyed every role he earned. He also was a musician and was a natural at banging drums. He created several songs for his culture that ring like anthems now in Caribbean neighborhoods throughout the US and all over the Caribbean (especially Belize).

He is considered a Belizean Legend to his tribe. He was a charismatic man. Believe it or not, he managed to balance all the professional endeavors he took on while being a consistent father figure to two baby boys in the early 80’s. Even though he sacrificed time in order to provide, he made sure to spend weekend hours dedicated to sports with the boys and family activity at the park or at the beach. He was a family man. Enter 1996, Renick moved the family to Las Vegas to be closer to his brothers and sisters. He joined the Carpenter’s Union where he became a teamster with GES Exposition Services and was dedicated to the Corporation for 25 years.

In 2013, Renick was given the best gift a father could ask for from his Jr...a granddaughter. He saw it as a testament to his faith. He had a granddaughter and he saw Priscilla shining from within his precious grandbaby Isla Roux. Although gifted with a blessing, he was almost immediately challenged with a curse and in 2013, he caught a severe stroke, was diagnosed with diabetes and his health was failing.

Everyone counted him out. Renick knew this. Being the man that he is, he was determined to see himself through to the other side of the dark tunnel….and he did. By 2016, he had overcome his odds of defeat and it was as if the Lord granted him another gift for his constant faith through the dark times. His fortitude awarded him with a grandson in 2017. When advised of the news in 2017, his first words were “Yes!!! Thank you lord for a boy!! The legacy continues!!”.

Renick Zephyr Lambey is his buddy and he adored how much Zephyr adores him. He lived for those moments when Zephyr would see him after months away and yell “Grandpa!!!” All in all...since 2016, he had been doing great and lived a disciplined life, filled with faith and joy. He was thankful for the new lease on life the Lord gave him. He lived every moment as if it were his last. He planned a new creative objective in life to benefit his grandchildren and his family. Although Renick passed before he could see his hard work pay off...he sowed a wise and healthy seed of motivation, in the case a day like this came too early…

That said...stay tuned...Renick might be gone physically... but he’s positioned perfectly in plain sight beginning the work to achieve his goal for his family through Renick Jr...a vessel that is a reflection of his inner greatness.

On November 12th of 2020, we lost our beloved Renick Michael Lambey too early and to a senseless criminal act. We are saddened but determined to bring him an easy rest.

Renick is survived and never will be forgotten by his widow, Diana Elizabeth Lambey; his sons: Renick Lambey Jr. and Karim Swaso; and his daughter, Nickii Lambey.
