Obituary for John Henry Smith Jr.
John H. Smith Jr. was born on February 7, 1936, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the late John H. Smith Sr. and Cleo Russell Smith, his parents. He was the oldest boy out of eight siblings, and he was named after his father.
John Smith Sr. and Cleo Smith moved from Tuscaloosa Alabama to Niagara Falls, New York. Mr. Smith Sr. was employed by Carborundum Plant Company in Niagara Falls, New York. John was a graduate from Niagara Falls, New York which, was known as Joliet High School.
After graduating high school, Mr. Smith joined to become a service member of the United States Air Force. He was as a Weapons Loader, stationed at Elmendorf, Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska. After being honorably discharged from military service, John moved to Rochester, New York. It was there that he began his second career, where he worked for Mixing Equipment (Lightning) for 35 plus years before retiring from the company.
John then relocated to Chicago, Illinois where he had lived and worked for a short time at Campbell Soup Company.
A loving husband, father and family man. John met and married his wife (Late) Anna-Belle Smith in Chicago, Illinois. After leaving Chicago, Illinois, John and Anna-Belle made a decision to move to Rochester, New York where they remained married for over 40 plus years.
After losing his wife, Annabelle Smith of heart disease, John moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to enjoy the remainder of his retirement years along with his family that he loved so dearly. In his pastime, he loved to read the daily newspaper, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Smitty was very active in sports. He liked to play sportsbook and he also enjoyed farming. John actively participated in church, wearing clean suits and sharp hats. Mr. Smith had an infectious laugh, and a great sense of humor.
On Friday, October 30, 2020, The Lord sent his angels of glory from Heaven to receive John H. Smith Jr. to be in his final resting place at home. John will be at rest with his previously deceased wife, Annabelle Smith, his previously deceased mother and father, John H. Smith Sr. and Cleo Russell Smith.; two of his sisters: Carrie L Smith and Verna Smith; three of his brothers: Nathaniel Smith, Wilbur Smith and Aubrey L Smith.
John H. Smith Jt. leaves to cherish his loving memories, his beautiful daughter, Valerie L Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada; three grandchildren: Daniel R. Smith; Rochelle L. Abney, and Knakia M. Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada; a sister, Evelyn Young of Niagara, Falls, New York; two brother: Cornelius A. Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada. Brother and Dr. Leon (Betty) Smith of Grand Island, New York; a sister-in-law, Earline J Smith of Niagara Falls, New York. six great-grandchildren: Raymond J. Nevares, Analicia M. Cruz, Jordan C. Abney, Lyrica E. Abney, Brielle Smith and Ameilia R. Smith along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
