Obituary for Gennie Morris
Gennie Mae Morris was born on December 17, 1931, in Union Church, Mississippi to Albert and Narciss Hayes. Gennie was the fourth born of twelve children. At a young age, Gennie and the family moved to Tallulah, Louisiana.
In 1947, Gennie met and married the love of her life, Marcus Morris. To this union, nine children were born.
Then in 1962, the family decided to moved to Las Vegas, Nevada.
Gennie began her housekeeping career at American Linen and went on to become a supervisor at the Dunes Hotel & Casino. She worked there until she had to retire due to a medical disability. In her pastime, Gennie loved to go fishing and playing bingo.
Then on Monday, October 5, 2020, Gennie transitioned this life to be with the Lord. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Albert and Narciss Hayes; her Step-Mother, Alma Hayes; three sisters: Christine Brown, Mae Hayes and Pearlie Mae Hayes; two step-sisters: Jannie Murphy and Sophrornia Riley; six brothers: Pat, James, Willie Lee, Jessie, Edward and Jim; four step-brothers; William, Wade, Alex and Tom; three grandchildren: Demetria Gatlin, Shanna Morris and Ronald Earl Bowie and five children: Margaret Bowie Dean, Sammy Morris, Leon Morris, Jessie M. Morris and Roscoe Morris.
Gennie leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Luvenia Gray, Ora Fleming, Hazel Morris, Sylvester Morris, all of Las Vegas, Nevada. A very special son-in-law, Alonzo Fleming. Alonzo was like a son to her and he loved her. Gennie also leaves her memories to here 16 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 20 great great grandchildren, two sisters: Will Mae Lexing and Anna Hayes of Las Vegas, Nevada; two brothers: Adolph Hayes and Elmore Hayes; three step-sisters: Alma Stevenson, Estella Murray, both of Las Vegas, Nevada and Carrie Blade of Long Beach, California; two step-brothers: Lee (Pearlie) Morris of Las Vegas, Nevada, Johnnie (Francie) Morris of Victorville, California; a very special sister-in-law; Willie Hayes; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Gennie Mae Morris will forever live in our hearts and be remembered for the love she had for her family.
