JoAnn Thompson was born April 25, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Walter Thompson and the late Arthedus Twilley-Thompson.

On Monday April 20, 2020, JoAnn Thompson loving mother of two sons Raymond and Darrel Jr. Loving grandmother of four grandsons Antoine Rajsaun, Dominique and Khai. One granddaughter Rayn who she referred to as "Cakes" loving great-grandmother to Jazmun, Nicholas and Emeri passed away at the age of 65.

JoAnn was the ninth of 10 children, six sisters and four brothers. Her parents moved to Chicago in 1943. JoAnn had her first son, Raymond which was her early birthday gift. He was born on April 23, 1970. JoAnn went on to graduate from Calumet High School in 1972, and on to Malcolm X College where she graduated in 1978.

In 1979, JoAnn met Darrel Ewell Sr. from Argo, Illinois and to this union their son Darrel Ewell Jr. often known as Lil D was born in 1980. They married in 1982 and Joann gained another son, Marty.

JoAnn was employed with several employees in Chicago, Illinois. Cook County Hospital as a radiologist technician and for a private doctor's office as a Xray Technician.

If you knew her, you could recognize her laugh from across the room. She was filled with so much humor that would keep you laughing for days. She moved to Las Vegas to be close to her family after most of her life in Chicago. In Vegas is where she made many friends at River of Life Word Ministries and working at Trans Dev Bus Company in Las Vegas is where she made her final home.

JoAnn really loved her family and friends and took those relationships seriously. You could catch her at any of her kids or grand kids sporting events and supporting her grandson Khai in whatever he is doing. She would be at every baby shower, family or church gathering, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren birthday parties. She would host Sunday dinners for family and friends and would make a dish for you at the drop of a dime.

Many may recall her in the stands shouting, “Put that defense on’em fellas” when her son, Raymond Thompson was a basketball star in Chicago.

JoAnn was such a joy to be around no matter where she was or who was around her. She lived her life to the fullest, the way she chose and was unapologetic in doing so. You can go to any state and find people from places she visited that she has touched with her vibrant personality. JoAnn is no longer with us but definitely with her GOD in heaven and is in a better place where nothing but joyous times lies ahead.

She was proceeded in death by her late mother, Arthedus Thompson; father, Walter Thompson; brothers: Walter Mose, Jerome, Al, and Walter Jr.; and sisters: Alice Ruth and Rosie Lee.

She leaves to cherish her memories two sons: Raymond (Josette) Thompson, Darrel (Amanda) Ewell; a stepson Demar Davis; Siblings: Jewell (Willie) Sims, Zeytte Thompson, and Gail Brooks; 5 grand children; 3 great grand children; and a host of Uncles, Aunts, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends.
