Obituary for Velma Lee Armstrong

REFLECTION OF LIFE

Velma Lee Armstrong was born December 24th, 1930 in Homer, Louisiana. She was the fifth of twelve children born to the loving union of George Armstrong Sr. and Annie White-Armstrong. Velma moved from Homer to Frenchill, Louisiana at the age of 14 years of age. She and her family later moved to Camden, Arkansas, where she attended Lincoln High School. Velma accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Westside Baptist Church in Camden, Arkansas.

In 1948, she united in holy matrimony with the late Richard Sonny Isom. God blessed Velma with a beautiful daughter; Gwendolyne Diann Isom, who preceded her in death.

Velma moved from Camden to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1961. She began working at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino, where she retired after 38 years of service. Velma was a member of Holy Cross Sold Rock Missionary Baptist Church.

Velma was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. She was a fabulous dresser who loved to sew. Velma also enjoyed doing word searches and crossword puzzles in her spare time. She will be greatly missed by all whom knew and loved her.

Velma was preceded in death by her six brothers: James Armstrong, WH (Buck) Armstrong, Walter Armstrong, WC ( Dub) Armstrong, Bobby (Bill) Armstrong and George Armstrong, Jr.; three sisters: Mattie Armstrong, Esther McKinney and Eva Walker; as well as her grandson: Marcus Todd Isom.

Velma leaves to cherish in her loving memory two brothers: Sammie R. Armstrong of Las Vegas, Nevada and Billy J. Armstrong of Los Angeles, California; granddaughter: Yolanda Williams-Baker and Anthony Baker both of Las Vegas, Nevada. three great grandchildren; LaMarcus Bryant and Gwendolyne Smith-Reece and A'moni Baker; goddaughter; Kayla Armstrong of Las Vegas, Nevada. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
