Obituary for George Arthur Rhodes Jr.

George Arthur  Rhodes Jr.
George Arthur Rhodes Jr. was born September 30th,1940 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the third child born to the marriage of George and Iola Rhodes.

At the age of 17, George enlisted in the US Navy where he completed his high school education. Although George was selected to attend Electrical Engineering School, he went to his commanding officer and expressed that he did not join the Navy to go to school, he stated"I joined the Navy to see the world." He spent the next 11 years on various ships around the world. He often shared all of the stories and countries he visited. He was a US Navy man through and through. He was part of the fleet directly involved in the Blockade of Cuban under President JFK.

After leaving the military, George went to work in the entertainment industry to include television production in New York, stage manager for the late Sammy Davis Jr. and the late George Rhodes Sr., Sammy and Company Variety show, Redd Foxx show and the Midnight Special with Wolfman Jack. He also introduced the talents of many new and upcoming artist. These artists included the likes of Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, Arsenio Hall and so many more. During this time, George became a member of the Directors Guild of America, one of very few African Americans at that time.

In 1979, George changed the course of his career and became a private investigator. 3 years later, he launched Rhodes Investigations Inc. with offices in Los Angeles, Washington and Nevada. He Specialized in workers compensation fraud and theft in the workplace. He was the first African American to be elected President of the California Association of Licensed Investigators.

George accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior as a young adult and was an active member of First A.M.E. in Los Angeles where he started their radio production team and was a member of the Men's Fellowship Committee.

George Arthur Rhodes Jr. leaves behind his loving wife Gail of 20 years; his 97 year old mother, Iola Smith; 3 sons: George III, Mark and Darren; 3 stepchildren: Reginald Brewer, Hasani Pitre and Mya Dyson; Sister: Andrea O'Daniel; brother: Gregory; 20 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and close and dearest friends; Derrick Nelson, Irving Youngblood and Cluster Clark.

George you left an indelible mark on everyone whose life you touched. You lived an adventurous life and so many of us were able to see those adventures through your eyes. We loved you beyond measures, but we know that God our Father loves you so much more. May you forever rest in peace.
