Sandra Patricia Jackson-Brown was born on April 21, 1949 in Manhattan, New York, a child of the union of Irene and Oswald Notice. She grew up in the borough of Queens, New York with her sister, Hope Theresa Notice. In 1968, Sandra graduated from John Adams High School in New York City. She later attended York College, City University of New York and Jones University. After college, she worked for J.P. Morgan Chase Bank (AKA Chemical Bank) for over twenty years.

Sandra raised two sons, Leonard Harper and Dennis Christan Jackson. In 1989, she met the love of her life Paul Brown. They were both motorcycle enthusiasts and enjoyed riding around the country. In 1993, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Paul was by her side through treatment and recovery.

Sandra and Paul relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1995 where Sandra put on pink boxing gloves and stepped into the ring against breast cancer. That same year, she was diagnosed with lung cancer, and two years later breast cancer again. Her experiences and survival were catalysts for her co-founding “Courage Unlimited” with her friend and fellow survivor Mimi Williams. They were co-hosts for a television talk show and were consistently sought after for speaking engagements throughout Southern Nevada. Sandra joined her longtime friend Cheryl Ballard implementing programs and services including cancer education, health and wellness, domestic violence and children’s services. She volunteered with several organizations, including “A Nu Day, A Nu Way” and “B & A Entertainment Services”.

In 2013, while Sandra and Paul were enjoying their hobby of shooting at the Clark County Shooting Complex, she conceived an idea for a fundraiser where breast cancer supporters and shooting enthusiasts could purchase pink targets, hence, the creation of “Shooting for the Pink”. With her fellow survivor Anita Cook by her side and a team of loyal friends and volunteers, it is now in its fourth year and has raised thousands of dollars for breast cancer education and awareness. During this time, she had another bout with cancer, this time the thyroid. She recovered. At this point, she had beaten cancer four times.

Over the past twenty years, Sandra has been featured in local and national newspapers and magazines, and has received accolades from Senators, Assemblymen, and local mayors for her dedicated work in the community and her unflinching persistence and enthusiasm.

On May 29, 2016, her heart and spirit were ready, and God called her to glory. And it was NOT cancer that determined her destiny. Sandra is survived by her soulmate, companion and lover Paul Brown, two sons Leonard Harper and Dennis Christan Jackson, sister Hope Notice, stepchildren, Kasey and her husband Matt McCulloch, Stacey Brown, and Tracey and her husband Jerry Sledge, a host of grandchildren, numerous cousins, special friends and sisters in the fight against cancer, brothers and sisters in her motorcycle family, and a community that loves and respects her.

She was a warrior, mentor and tenacious survivor. She has touched the lives of thousands and her memory will last through the annals of time.
